Dubai is not short of AI presentations. Finding someone who will still be there when the integration stops working is the more interesting exercise.

An AI consultancy engagement should leave a business with a better way of working, the evidence that it helps, and someone able to run it. A polished demonstration is the beginning of that conversation. It is a fairly expensive place to end it.

The short answer: for a Dubai or UAE business, start with one operational problem, identify the people and systems involved, and commission a bounded test. Specify the data permissions, acceptance criteria, support arrangements and ownership before choosing a model. Buy an operational result you can inspect.

What should AI consultancy in Dubai actually deliver?

The useful work falls into discovery, testing, implementation and ownership. They need not be four separate contracts, but each needs a visible result. Discovery should expose a workflow and its cost. Testing should show whether AI improves it. Implementation should make the approved workflow work inside your systems. Handover should let your people operate it.

For example, take a UAE services company handling enquiries in Arabic and English. The first question is not which chatbot looks most impressive. It is whether enquiries are arriving with enough information to route correctly, which ones require a qualified person, and how the team currently records a commitment to a customer.

A bilingual demo using three friendly questions tells you very little. Test mixed-language messages, misspelt names, ambiguous requests and cases where the correct answer is to stop and ask. Include Arabic-speaking reviewers if Arabic is in scope. Agree what successful routing means before the test begins.

Build a brief around the work

Commissioning question Evidence to ask for Warning sign
Which workflow changes? A current and proposed process map A tool catalogue presented as a strategy
Which data is involved? Named systems, data owners and access rules “We will connect everything”
How will quality be checked? Representative examples and exception tests Only screenshots of successful answers
Who can act on an answer? Approval limits and recorded decisions An agent with unrestricted credentials
Who runs it afterwards? Accounts, runbook, training and support scope Everything lives in the supplier’s workspace

Treat these as buying questions, not a compliance certification. The NIST AI Risk Management Framework is a useful voluntary reference for structuring risk work; it does not approve your particular system.

What changes when the business operates across the UAE?

A Dubai address is not a complete data-handling specification. Map which legal entities commission the work, where customers and staff are, which systems process information and which jurisdictions or sector rules the arrangement touches. Get the appropriate specialist to resolve legal requirements before moving sensitive records.

Operationally, write down the working language, support hours, local stakeholder availability and whether work must happen on site. If a supplier promises “UAE coverage”, ask what that means on a Tuesday afternoon when the service owner needs a decision.

Currency belongs in the brief too. State whether prices are in AED, which usage costs are variable, what happens at the spending limit and which services are paid directly by you. A low implementation fee can hide a sizeable operating bill.

Start with a pilot that can fail honestly

An illustrative enquiry-routing pilot could begin with a sanitised sample of historical messages. Have the existing team label the right destination and flag cases needing clarification. Keep some examples out of development so the final test is not simply an exam the supplier has already memorised.

Measure correct routing, missed escalations, reviewer time and total cost per completed enquiry. Compare against the current process. A fast draft that creates twice as much checking is not a saving.

Agree a stop condition. If the pilot repeatedly routes urgent or sensitive cases incorrectly, keep it in draft mode or stop it. A useful pilot is allowed to say “not ready”.

How I approach the engagement

I’m based in Dubai. My work connects business decisions with technical delivery: finding a practical starting point, testing it against the real workflow, and making ownership explicit. The AIQ lab shows the direction of my own work with AI systems; it is not a promise that your business needs the same architecture.

Bring one process, its owner and a rough picture of the current friction. We can work out whether the next sensible step is a workshop, a limited implementation, or fixing the process before adding AI. Sometimes the least glamorous answer is the right one.

What should be agreed before work starts?

Name the decision-maker, the data owner and the person accepting delivery. Set a budget ceiling, the evidence needed to continue, and the deliverables you retain if the pilot stops. Ask for access to your own project records throughout the engagement.

You should be able to explain the first piece of work in a paragraph. If it takes twenty slides to discover what you are buying, the scope probably needs another conversation.
